The Sheffield Universities’ Managing Directors’ Club is committed to supporting our members during the coronavirus pandemic, therefore we are pleased to invite you to our first online event.
This special webinar focuses on the business support available from both Sheffield Universities and collaboration opportunities for both academics and businesses within the Sheffield City Region. We will also be showcasing the facilities available at the innovative iForge MakerSpace.
The event will take place online and you will be emailed a link after registration.
This event provides the opportunity to:
- Hear from both Sheffield Universities on the current support and opportunities available.
- Network and share knowledge with Sheffield City Region businesses and academics from both Sheffield universities to spark future partnership ideas.
- Tour iForge MakerSpace facilities and hear examples of the benefits collaboration can bring.
- Pose questions to our panel on your current business needs.

Professor Kevin Kerrigan – Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business and Enterprise, Sheffield Hallam University
Professor Kevin Kerrigan is Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business and Enterprise at Sheffield Hallam University. In this role Kevin is responsible for the University’s relationships with business, public and voluntary organisations in the region, the UK and internationally.
Talk: Sheffield Hallam University Civic and Industry response
Kevin will be taking us through Sheffield Hallam University’s response to the current coronavirus pandemic. Focusing specifically on how the university is aiding business and economic recovery.
Dr Ronald Dyer – Director of Executive and Professional Education, University of Sheffield
Ronald Dyer is the Director of Executive and Professional Education at the University of Sheffield’s, Management School. With over 20 years of project management experience across financial services, education, agriculture and energy focused organisational transformation initiatives.
Talk: Sheffield University Management School (SUMS) EPE (Executive and Professional Education) – Supporting our SME Ecosystem
An open discussion with regards to opportunities to support your business including short courses, SUMS suite of PG-Programmes and potential one to one consultancy opportunities. There will be a short presentation of the SUMS EPE portfolio and the chance for participants to discuss their current challenges. Ron will also be providing information about some of the previous and current work with SMEs.
Dr Pete Mylon – Academic Lead for the iForge, University of Sheffield
Pete is the academic lead for the iForge, the first student-led MakerSpace. Run by a team of over 40 students, it provides a space for students to learn practical skills and collaborate in a relaxed environment, and is developing a global reputation. Pete is also the founder of, and current conference chair of, the UNIMAKER conference.
Talk: Impact Project Scheme and the iForge MakerSpace
Pete will be introducing the Impact Project Scheme, in which engineering students come together with SMEs in short, agile projects to provide innovative solutions and improve design and manufacturing processes using digital skills such as CAD/CAM, VR and simulation. The scheme aims to give vital employability skills and experience to students while helping to make local SMEs Industry 4.0- ready. Pete will also be showcasing a tour of the innovative iForge facilities.
